Welcome to WaterNotes. I’m Sarah. I’m a student, environmental educator (or naturalist), SCUBA diver, aquarist and all around fish-obsessed person.

By day, I enjoy sharing my passion for the ocean in outreach and education positions. I’ve worked for several zoos and aquariums. I studied wildlife conservation and marine biology while in school and worked in research labs. I aspire to work on a dive boat in Belize, learn to parallel park, write novels, and swim with great whites.
By night, I helm the pages of this ‘blog. WaterNotes is focused on the conservation issues present in coastal ecosystems, especially the habitats and wildlife found in Florida. (That’s where I live afterall.) In these pages I document the amazing, disturbing, upsetting, inspiring, and breathtaking moments and events that I experience while roaming about in the wilderness. I also explore the process of adopting a green, eco-conscious, smart and intelligent lifestyle that will help decrease the impact I have on wild places.
You may notice several other undercurrents running through the posts. These include thoughts about environmental education, fish, the aquarium hobby, and habitat restoration. In fact, WaterNotes began as a place to chronicle the ups and downs of marine planted aquaria in an effort to gain experience in growing seagrass and eventually, restoring seagrass habitat. Trust me, it all comes full circle. Whatever your own interests, I hope you enjoy the ‘Notes.
